BUFFALO, Iowa -- Lawrence C. “Lanny” Nichols, a resident of Buffalo, Iowa passed away Friday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He had endured a long and courageous battle with his illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for an educational fund for his son, Lanny. Lanny was born Sep. 4, 1960, in Waynesboro, Tenn., the son of Ray and Rachel (Stricklin) Nichols and was a graduate of Davenport West High School. On Dec. 27, 1979, he was united in marriage to Penny D. Peters in Buffalo. Before his illness, Lanny was employed as a mechanic at River City Ford in Davenport. In earlier years, he had worked at Five Cities Tool and Diesel, Waddell Brother in Blue Grass, Iowa and Big River Equipment in Riverdale, Iowa. Among the things he enjoyed were hunting and camping. He was an avid NASCAR fan and as a mechanic, loved to work on cars of all types. Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Penny; his daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Nick Larson, of Davenport; his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Nichols, of Elk Grove, Mo., and Lanny Nichols, of Buffalo; his grandchildren, Tanner, Dakota, Hunter and Lawrence Clay; his mother, Rachel Nichols, of Buffalo; his sisters and brother-in-law, Jodi and Jim Hulse, of Indianapolis, Ind., Theresia Marxen and Sherrie Horn, both of Davenport; and his very special friends, Rodney Scott and Randy Stowe. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Kelley, Dr. Charles Bruyntjens and the Pulmonary Unit of Genesis Medical Center-West Campus for their loving care during Lanny's illness.
